After the resounding success of i10, Hyundai now presents Elite i20 which is a premium hatchback and an improved version of i20. i20 was the first car to feature Hyundai’s fluidic design in India and Hyundai Elite i20 gets a styling makeover with revised interiors.
From the look of it
The Elite i20 ups the premium appeal of the old i20 with a forward leaning stance and flared wheel arches. It now looks sportier and more modern. The blackened out B and C pillars give an impression of a floating roofline. The front grille has chrome surrounds and a wide but compact air intake with mesh design. The swept back deign of the headlamps add to the sporty appeal. The long wraparound tail lamps and the rear bumper with reverse lights and reflectors on either side enhance the rear profile of this car.
Like all Hyundai cars, the inside of Elite i20 too is feature rich in all aspects. The re-designed dashboard in black-beige colour combination looks good. The car gets all the features of the old car like lane changing indicator, rear air-con vents, steering adaptive parking assist, in-built service reminder etc. Other striking interior features of the car are height adjustable driver’s seat, rear wash and wipe, climate control system, cooled glovebox, reverse parking assist, electro chromatic rear view mirror, gear shift indicator etc.
Engine and Gearbox
The power train of the vehicle remains the same as the previous car. The petrol version is a 4 cylinder, 1.2-litre Kappa engine that offers 83bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel variant of the car is powered by 1.4-litre CRDI engine that produces 89bhp of power and 219Nm of torque. This diesel mill is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The petrol variants of Hyundai Elite i20 offer a mileage of around 16 kmpl on city roads and 1kmpl on Highways. On the other hand, the diesel variant offers a better fuel economy of 20kmpl inside the city and 22kmpl outside it.
Ride and Handling
The ride quality offered by Hyundai Elite i20 is pretty good for highway and city conditions. The McPherson Strut suspension system at the front with a Torsion beam axle and coil spring at the rear offers a smoother drive.
Pricing and Competition
Hyundai Elite i20 cokes across as a good looking and spacious car that gives you a big car feel for lesser money. It will surely appeal to those who appreciate the safety aspects and the new features. It locks horns with Fiat Punto Evo, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz.
